We hear it all the time: Homeowners who loved the “perfect” kitchen when they bought their home feel like the room has actually gotten smaller! Sometimes it’s because kids are now in the mix; other times it’s a natural result of using the space for a few years and realizing it doesn’t function as well as you need it to.
Either way, a bigger kitchen is one of the most popular remodeling requests. Adding on can seem like a great solution, but that’s not always feasible, or desired. In this two-part series, we cover some ways to add space while working with what you have.
The Bump Out
Bumping an exterior wall out by two feet is a great way to add square footage and can be a real game-changer in a small kitchen, giving you plenty of space for cabinets and appliances with extra space in front of them. Whether this is a good option for your remodel is discovered during the design-build process when we check for things like existing floor joists, etc.
Go Minimalist
Take back existing space by using smaller appliances and foregoing ones you don’t really need. The kitchen will be less cramped, and you’ll have more space to work in.
On to part two!
