When our clients came to us, they had a vision that was both deeply personal and beautifully simple: create a place where their son and new daughter-in-law could put down roots, build their life together, and one day welcome the people they love most through the front door. The Barnstead draws its soul from the honest, grounded silhouette of a traditional barn — but everything inside speaks to something more refined, with the layered light and breathable qualities of contemporary European design: hand-applied plaster walls, earthy-toned materials, and an abundance of natural light that shifts beautifully throughout the day.
The home unfolds across two distinct but connected worlds. The upper level offers a private sanctuary — a sun-filled apartment where the young couple can settle into the rhythms of their own life. Below, the ground floor opens up entirely, designed from the beginning to hold a crowd, a holiday, a long dinner that stretches into the evening.

The ground floor great room was conceived as the heartbeat of the home: an open-concept kitchen that flows naturally toward the outdoors, generous proportions that never feel overwhelming, and details that invite people to stay a little longer.
