Instinct is untaught ability- Alexander Bain  We all have a measure of it as far as interior design is concerned.  You may not ‘know’ what you like but you ‘know’ what you don’t like…therefor you have
instinct for what will fit nicely into your home.
HINT:: ITS NOT THIS!  YIKES!

STEP 1 Decide what you want to look at every day :)  Photos and artwork that bring wonderful memories to mind are definitely what you want to start with.  Once you have a great ‘base’ of personal story telling art then you can fill in with items that are just plain pretty to look at.

STEP 2  Scale your artwork.  When purchasing frames allow yourself to go creative with sizing; a wall filled exclusively with 5×7 frames is boring.  Go large and grand with a few frames and you will notice that your room feels larger than it did before…a little trick of the design trade :)  Leave your especially small frames for adorning your side tables; typically they are too small on a wall display to make out what a viewer is looking at.

STEP 3  Practice your placement with paper cut in the shape and size of your art/frame and a tape.  Otherwise you will have a wall full or nail holes to fill in if you change your mind about the exact location of your oversized photo of Jr kicking the winning goal at the soccer game last year.  I recommend you leave the ‘practice wall art’ up for a couple days to make sure you love it.  Then you will be ready to pull out the nails, hammer and level.
…remember practice & experimenting makes your home imperfectly perfect.
