In this project, we partnered with our clients to infuse their home with the sophisticated southern charm they desired while addressing key areas needing better functionality and flow. Drawing inspiration from their love of southern architecture, we set out to create inviting and full-of-character spaces.
Initially, the kitchen felt dark and closed off, so we reimagined the space by introducing additional windows. This brought in more natural light and enhanced the overall ambiance, making the kitchen the lively heart of the home.
Picking the right countertop was a big deal for this kitchen since it was used on both islands, the kitchen perimeter, and most of the backsplash. After looking at countless options, we landed on a 2cm quartz by Aurea Stone that was undoubtedly the perfect fit for the space. We fell in love with the drama it adds while feeling classic and timeless. Since this material requires mitered edges, we decided to have some fun and go a little thicker with the edge than normal and created a beautiful curved detail at the coffee bar for that extra “oomph” we were going for.
The gallery shelves and the coffee bar are two corners of this kitchen that add uniqueness. The brass gallery rails and herringbone backsplash add so much texture and warmth to the space and are super functional. The under-cabinet lighting we did under each shelf creates a great ambiance when enjoying a nice glass of wine at the end of the day. On the other hand, the coffee bar across the kitchen was curated with easy mornings in mind. We ensured it could be a one-stop shop by including storage in the cabinets for the not-so-pretty coffee accessories, a sink for an easy refill on coffee machines, and hooks for easy access to our client’s favorite mugs.
To improve the connection between the living areas, we redefined the space by removing a brick wall that had initially separated it and introducing stunning beams that seamlessly tie the living room into the rest of the home. This transformation created a more open and cohesive environment, allowing the spaces to flow effortlessly together.
We felt the kitchen, breakfast, and sitting room needed better flow for entertaining, so we added a cased opening to the side of the double-sided fireplace. This not only brought more light into all of these areas but it made the fireplace feel like the special feature that it is. We resurfaced the fireplace on the breakfast room side with a black herringbone tile that spoke well to the herringbone in the back of the family room fireplace and the herringbone backsplash in the kitchen.
Throughout the project, we focused on ensuring every detail reflected our clients’ vision. From the checkered tile floors in the powder and laundry rooms to the faux metal vent hood in the kitchen, each element was thoughtfully designed. Lighting was crucial in highlighting these features, ensuring that every room exudes warmth and charm.
They say that lighting is the jewelry of the home, and our client wanted the lighting to truly feel that way. Adding light fixtures anywhere and everywhere that made sense made each and every corner of the home feel intentional. From the moment you walk through the front door, you’re greeted by a flush mount made of hand-rubbed brass and an antique mirror. The sitting room has the same design, in the form of a pendant. The kitchen features gorgeous oversized pendants over the island, sconces over the windows, and under cabinet lighting on the floating shelves. The dining room chandelier features crystal shades, each hung individually, and feels like a work of art. Each and every piece was selected to bring joy to our clients every time they looked at them.
